Just to be clear, a twin room in most of Europe will have two 3' wide beds with a 2' to 6' gap between them, depending on the overall room size.

OK for an overnight before travelling on, but not much fun for a city stay base.

Italy and Spain (well lots of places really ) are pretty child friendly countries. Call and ask what they recommend you do.
