I agree with you, but fear BA has made a rod for its own back here.
The first two responses they'll get from Mr. DYKWIA who is far too important and busy to queue for his luggage with the revolting untouchables will be 1) "it was never a problem before" and 2) "what sort of way is that to treat your most frequent flyers?"
