HIDDYs reply on safety is a solely bullshi@

For safety they can check it in. Or gate check it.
Unfortunately, this isn't the case for BA on shorthaul. As we don't stay with an aircraft all day, but go from one aircraft to another, we don't have the option of checking bags in. There is a requirement for us to stow our hand baggage in an approved stowage such as an overhead locker. Most cabin crew are pretty good at not placing their crew bags in the very front or back row and this is something I always ask them to do, but I understand the wariness for at least wanting it within viewable distance based on problems we've had with, shall we say, light fingered guests. I personally have a padlock on my crew bag for inflight and keep my handbag as close to me as possible. I do avoid row 1 or the back row however.
