However, before the change to Avios, there was a period when the UK Air Miles scheme (the predecessor to avios.com) booked some award tickets into normal revenue booking classes, with the travel consequently earning miles. So it would not be unprecedented.
Nevertheless, I think that BA's systems have become more sophisticated over the years, so I wouldn't count on it. IIRC, V can also used for economy award tickets redeemed through BA by BA Golds, and it may be that there's a flag that will stop your flights from earning.
I saw 912 miles post today which was a week after my first AS flight so will consider myself lucky.
