I've never seen or heard of anything like this. As far as alcohol goes, on any flight in the afternoon/evening, I almost always order a double and have never once been told no, or that is' against policy.

Other than that, I can't remember a flight on UA where in coach I wasn't given a can without asking, it always just happens.
