I am somewhat confused on the current partnership between DL and Virgin Australia.

Wife and I are considering flying LAX> SYD late Dec 2103 returning early/mid Jan 2014.

Looking for BE award tickets. I know all DL partners book at the low level, which should be 70K each way. Can I book on Virgin Australia at the low level if there is award space available? If so, how do I find award space availability on EF? I assume I then call the DL DM line and have them book for me?
