Loads to do in Chicago. Good restaurants, shops and theatre; just like New York but less busy and not as compact. We visited Chicago for the first time last year and really liked it as an alternative to New York.

Boston is very much like England; very genteel for the US
October is the fall season so New England (Boston) might be interesting if you have a car to drive through the countryside to see the autumn leaves.
