Also, they mention a kids club. I'm sure it's nothing like the Disney resort, but is there any value to it for a few hours of fun for my son so he can be away from the parents for a while when we're not off resort? Or is it just an activity center with the parents watching?
There are no benefits - MVC (like Hilton, Hyatt, SVO etc. vacation clubs) are run completely separate from the hotel rewards programs. Occasionally there is some overlap, i.e. SVO ownership gets you Starwood Gold status, but very little in terms of benefits. At other MVC resorts can usually get a discounted
plastic cup for "free" coffee & soda refills, maybe parking discounts, but that's about it.

There is an activity center as you describe, but there is no true "kid's club" at MVC Ko Olina where you can drop off your kid for the day at a facility where they will be supervised by adults. I was told there is one at the JW up the road; however that is for hotel guests, I doubt they would waive that requirement but you could try. Disney seemed very snooty about accommodating visitors, you can't make advance reservations for the character meals so I don't know if they'd let you drop off either.

MVC has plenty of kids activities but these all require that an adult be present at all times. These include painting, games and a mermaid visit to the swimming pool. It is a great resort for kids (the beach lagoon is so calm that you don't have to worry about undertow, etc.) but alas no Camp Hyatt.
