lhrsfo, your point on factoring in the stress of the drive is well taken. But for GBP 30--not pennies in my book--it sounds like a reasonable trade-off. No expensive coffees for me (I don't drink it, and I think I can manage a 2-hour drive without stopping at a rest area). There is also the stress of having to take the train from Paddington to Cardiff and making sure that I get there before the Enterprise office closes at 6 (I've had that train be severely delayed on previous trips), and the hassle of hauling my bags onto/off of multiple conveyances on Sunday.

I think I will check the traffic on the route this Friday and Sunday and make my decision based on that.
