Hey Amex didn't follow through on a promise! [5k for Green to Gold upgrade]

Ugh I hate complaining, this is such a small issue, but if anyone in the community can help out I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm interested in upgrading my Green card to a PRG. Unfortunately I don't fly enough on DL (my personal favorite) or any other airline to go with an airline-centric card. The PRG seems to make sense to me. Okay I did the online chat and started talking to a Supervisor ("Roy") who said he'd extend 5,000 MR points bonus if I upgrade. Just call the agent and he'll see that "Roy" made a note promising 5,000 points and I'll upgrade. Okay cool.

I call the agent (Ricky) and Ricky said that Roy's promise doesn't really work. What will actually happen is marketing will review my conversation with Roy and might send me an email or a letter in the mail offering me 5,000 points (or more or less) at a time when they feel like it then I can take advantage of it. They may or may not even do that though. But I can't upgrade the way I thought my live chat session with Roy was going to go. No upgrade with 5,000 points now. Gotta see if marketing decides to do a promo which can be any time.

Look everyone on here will probably nod their head "no" and think "Brian is a dummy" when they see I'm splitting hairs over measly 5,000 MR points. I know it's not a huge deal, I know it's not enough points to really complain about. And overall I do like Amex. But I don't get it! They said they'd do one thing, then said later "no"...what's going on? Who's right? 5,000 MR points is nothing to them why are they being so shy about it?

Can anyone here offer any advice? Thanks and sorry for the length...
