I agree. With a checking account, Chase has a much better idea of your ability to pay. They know your average account balance and they can deduce how much you make if you have direct deposits from an employer coming in. The less they know about you, the better.
Banks do discriminate based on where you shop. Since the recession, banks have become more interested in analyzing their customers. The New York Times has
a fascinating article describing this trend. That said, I don't pay much attention to it. I'm still going to use my card at a bar to grab a few beers. Why say no to 2x UR points?

Unless you use your Chase checking as your primary checking with direct deposit and a lot of transactions a month, just the mere fact of having a Chase checking account doesn't give Chase that much information.
