I remember back when I had the Amex Plat Biz card and people would say, Amex wants you to be spending at Whole Food and not Walmart (if you know what I mean...) but over the last year, I realized that's just nonsense.
I used my card all over the place, and didn't have a problem.

When I read about people getting shut down, I've noticed two things in particular, a lot of them had a Chase checking account or/and a lot were spending and then paying off their debt repeatedly over a month to free up the credit limit. But almost all the reports I read had people manufacturing spend.

The two exceptions I remember reading about was one who lost 380k because something totally unrelated to MF, and the other because (back when vanillas were available at OD) spent close to $50k exclusively at Office Depot.
I agree. With a checking account, Chase has a much better idea of your ability to pay. They know your average account balance and they can deduce how much you make if you have direct deposits from an employer coming in. The less they know about you, the better.

Banks do discriminate based on where you shop. Since the recession, banks have become more interested in analyzing their customers. The New York Times has a fascinating article describing this trend. That said, I don't pay much attention to it. I'm still going to use my card at a bar to grab a few beers. Why say no to 2x UR points?
