(ETA: This is a post sounds a little redundant, it is. It was originally written for a different thread and merged into this one.)
I have been using Straight Talk for about a year and recently switched to the Nexus 4 (using their BYOP - Bring Your Own Phone). My new ST SIM card allows me to use the AT&T network.
For almost a month now, I've been trying to get MMS messaging to work on my Nexus 4. Other FT users have been extraordinarily helpful--far more helpful than the company's own service reps--but nothing has worked. I cannot send MMS messages using Straight Talk and I can't download MMS messages that I receive.
Based on the inordinate number of threads on
Straighttalkwirelessforum.com from users suffering the same problems, I've given up hope. Just a selection:
Can't send/receive picture messages
No MMS with iPhone 3G
MMS and picture message do not work
Straight Talk's "moderators" respond to every problem with "we need to take this offline, I'll PM you." And then they proceed to make suggestions that border on the ridiculous. My favorites:
1. Turn your phone on and off.
2. Make sure your phone is unlocked.
3. Remove and replace the battery.
4. Remove and replace the SIM card.
5. Check to make sure you can access the internet.
6. Make sure Chrome is set to download images.
7. ...maybe you should try to restart the phone again.
Bottom line: Straight Talk makes no guarantees that you'll be able to send and receive MMS messages, they have a huge problem with MMS messages that they don't seem to be addressing and they've already come out to say that MMS messaging is NOT available on some (all?) iPhones. They pass off the problems with the customers on the BYOP plans by saying, "It may be a limitation of your phone." Yeah, like Google and LG forgot to include MMS messaging capabilities on my Nexus 4.
I know FT has a ton of members and visitors who are looking for no-contract/prepaid cellular phone service. DO NOT USE STRAIGHTTALK IF YOU NEED MMS MESSAGING SERVICES. It will cause nothing but headaches.
Oh, and as an aside: As of last week, people still could not port their phone number from StraightTalk to AIO.
