Delta standy priority - what is it based on?

Flying ATL-BOS today - initial flight 2300 was oversold and they asked for volunteers in return for $400/each, confirm seats on the 9:45 and a $10 meal voucher. Good deal so my buddy I offered and took the switch. The GA informed us that while we were confirmed at 9:45, we would be waitlisted for the 5:45, and if we didn't make that one, then the 7:15pm one also.

Well needless to say we didn't make either. The 5:45 went out with 3 standby's, one of which was an off duty jetBlue pilot dressed in his uniform. The 7:15 went out with about 5 standby's, one of which was a family of 2 kids and a parent, a college aged girl and then an adult female.

So here's my question. I'm an FO, we accommodated Delta by offering up our seats - wouldn't those two factors have some weight as to our being a little more prioritized on the list......especially over a jetBlue employee whom I'm guessing was a non-rev? What am I missing?
