I went out to look at Rimowa Limbo bags this weekend. I had a couple of negative surprises. Although, I'm still planning on Rimowa Limbo but pausing a bit in regard to the carry-on piece.

My first surprise was that the my preferred color from the catalog, seal grey, was a real disappointment. From the catalog I thought it had a certain smoked grey look to it. While it is a metallic color, it is much closer to the grey one might see on a US Navy vehicle than anything else. The night blue is quite attractive. I had previously thinking of a dark grey being paired with an LV black EPI. At this point I think the Rimowa seal grey is out. Upon re-examining the catalog, all of their colors for the Limbo line are inaccurate. This is most obvious when one looks at the black. It's probably the lighting they used for the photos.

Another interesting observation, with which the store owner also agreed was that the Salsa, seal grey, was darker than the Limbo seal grey. I really expected the colors to be identical since Rimowa was using the same name and they were on the same material. Both the Limbo and Salsa bags were made in Czechoslovakia. So the color difference wasn't due to manufacturing in different countries.

As noted in one of the other posts, the Rimowa strap for attaching a second bag is really meant for the bag to be hanging. It does not work well for two pieces of the same size. I expect that I would definitely need a luggage strap of some sort to go around both bags so as to make two same size bags a secure bundle for rolling together.

I played around a bit with the Multiwheel IATA. I am concerned about the clamshell design for inflight access. I tend to use my carryon for items I wish to access during the flight. I usually unload most of them prior to settling into my seat. However, I do sometimes grab things during the flight. It certainly seems like the clamshell design in not something you can just reach into while the bag while it is up in the overhead bin. I very rarely use my carryon for items which are solely for use at the destination. Also, at the end of the flight, usually thirty minutes before arrival, I tend to load the bag up. Usually I do this while the bag remains in the overhead bin. I don't think I could do this with the Rimowa piece. It seems like the clamshell design and the internal partitioning system is almost too secure for easy inflight access.

Lastly, I noticed a couple of pieces having a mark of some sort which appeared to be in the plastic. I wasn't sure if it was a defect or not. I've posted pictures in another post.
