It's certainly possible that in the seconds or minute after the seat map displays, but before you click to submit your requests, someone else has selected your desired seat.
It you start over and redisplay the seat map, are the seats still available?
I have seen this in the past when logging in to look at seating on my flight, after I've had a seat.
