I have been making calls from in-flight for over 20 years starting with the (GTE) Airfone during domestic US flights and eventually various other services including using Connexion by Boeing to make Skype and VOIP calls from in-flight even on international flights. Now with in-flight Internet on far more planes and with the ability to make phone calls or text messages cheaply just before take off or as soon as landing, I try to avoid making calls in-flight as the information gets communicated by me before take-off and arrival info is more easily followed by those receiving me. There may be times when I am in the air and want to communicate with someone on the ground but that is increasingly better handled by non-voice communications.
