I asked because eating at (I think it was Sushi Dai... It was back before I had internet access in 2002, I just joined a queue) one of those sushi places as a dumb tourist was honestly one of the main highlights in a trip full of extraordinary highlights (like meeting MrLapLap).
Without good reason, I wouldn't wish to steer anyone away from this. As a first introduction to the delights of "good sushi" (sure, not THE best but revelatory compared to sushi I had sought out in England and Spain and great value - I'd been out clubbing and had 2,000yen to spend at Sushi Dai).
I also had the good fortune to be queuing beside a fellow female diner, she was Japanese and didn't speak a word of English to me but her enthusiasm for sushi, her personal generosity and kindness all contributed to an unforgettable joyous experience I will always,
always treasure. YMMV.
