I have seen articles about this and they said that many people assume that their cc covers them and said that it is a misconception that people believe they are covered.
Also, at a previous job we had company Visa II though RBC (I think). It had a lot of great coverage for travel insurance, medical out country insurance which I had to use on occasion but when I had a sales rep stop abruptly in front of me in an intersection and I hit her with my rental the card didn't pay. My company ended up footing the bill + the cost of the lost rental days while the car was being fixed. It was 5 years ago so I'm sorry that I don't remember every detail.
It was that fact mixed with articles that I have read that made me pick the Diners Club. As a side note, "I'm prety sure" I remember reading in some of the car rental threads many people say that not all cards give primary coverage (could be just a US thing or my memory though)
