This is what hapepned on my return trip from Surabaya via Jakarta back to Hong Kong.

- I was scheduled to be on the 1915 flight from Surabaya to CGK, arriving at 2045, and my flight to HKG was to leave at 2345.
- All GA flights from Surabaya leaves from the International Terminal, whether the flight is international or domestic.
- At check in at Surabaya at 1735, I was advised that the 1915 flight was late by at least 25 minutes and I was offered to be put on the 1800 flight, which was late by 15 minutes. I was told that my bag would make it. Switched to the earlier flight and luggage tagged all the way to HKG.
- NO DEPARTURE TAXES COLLECTED AT SURABAYA.
- BP issued only for Surabaya to CGK. Was told that I could only get by onward BP in CGK.
- The 1800 flight left at 1840 and arrived in CGK near 1955.
- Once landed, went upstairs to transit and straight to international departures. Went to check in desk. Was asked for my luggage tag so that my bag could be matched to me, and got my BP to HKG issued. Also paid the IDR 150,000 departure tax AT CHECK IN.
- Went through exit immigration with ease.
- Did some lounge shopping as I have the Priority Pass card. Despite the fact that GA leaves from terminal E, I decided to go to Premier Lounge in Terminal D where there was hot food - chicken drumsticks, potatos, pasta, stir fried veggies and so on.
- Flight was not full. Travel companion and I requested second row of emergency exit but we didn't get two seats together. However, three of the six seats on the second row ended up not being occupied and we basically got one window and one aisle with an empty seat in between. No one else seemed to want either of the two emergency exit rows for some reason at the end of it, despite the much better leg room, which I appreciated on an overnight flight.
- We were given a printed menu which read "breakfast" and in parallel we were given a small bun like the bun you would find on a domestic flight - filled with some curry-flavoured meat.
- Breakfast was served 90 minutes before landing. We got fruit (sliced pineapple, papaya and two longans), strawberry yogurt, choice of fish on nasi goreng or omelette with chicken sausage, hot croissant and tea/coffee.
- Bag arrived in HKG.
- Overall a good experience on GA.

I am now suspecting that for any domestic GA airport to CGK to international destination flight, you have to get your CGK to international destination BP at CGK check in rather than your original airport of embarakation, since they would have to collect your IDR150,000 and give you the receipt to attach to the BP.
