I have a question that i thought could be best answered here. i am relatively new to Delta's Status. I have been Silver this year and at this point, I am on track to make gold by year end. However, my friend just called and offered to gift me gold for next year if I buy him a miles run ticket. He is close to Diamond and needs one mileage run. He is a good friend and we are thinking of making a fun weekend somewhere out of it. Anyhow, so my initial thought was to now personally stop just short of gold status (49000 or so) and then have those miles roll over to next year. This would pretty much ensure two years of gold status as those miles would roll over.

And as most of my flying is to the northeast of the US and South America, it is work to fly Delta sometimes. I could fly direct with JetBlue or Southwest, but I have been stopping in Atlanta to get status and points.

Anyhow, am I missing anything? Is my logic sound or flawed?
