Presumably because Ed wants to ship the wallet from China to Japan.

In response to the OP, the simple solution is to ship the contents of the wallet to her... maybe focus on the essential things in case there is a hold up. By the way, it seems like every other PRC company has a DHL account that gets substantial discounts (iirc 50% on small packages just for the asking).
