OP, while the Cascades is an awesome train ride, even with the border hassles, it may or may not be the quickest way from yvr to the Olympic peninsula. Have you considered going by seaplane to Victoria then switching to the Port Angeles Ferry? Car rentals are readily obtained in Port Angeles.
