A few years ago my parents flew Asiana to Hong Kong to visit. Mom is a doc and they asked for a doctor over the PA. My mom groggily got up to help, and found this guy passed out / barely conscious with chest pain. He came to eventually, but my Mom was worried he was having a heart attack. She got him some Asprin and told the flight attendant she would recommend diverting due to the potential heart attack. Flight attendant said she would take the advice to the captain. They continued on with the flight and never fed back any decision to my Mom - no response from the flight attendant nor the captain.

Guy ended up OK. When they landed safely, at the door the crew presented my Mom with a generous gift as thanks: Two amenity kits from business class. She thought it was hilarious - she still uses one of those pathetic Asiana zipper bags as a makeup holder, and it always reminds us of this story for a good laugh. Mom flies a lot and has been in this situation more than once before (with less sick people I think), and had previously been given a bottle of wine or nothing, but never a toiletry kit.

I have no recollection of where they were or what the diversion options were, but I remember Japan seemed like an option, and it was somewhat disconcerting that there was no response to the diversion request. I don't really fault them, hard to know what was communicated exactly with the language and cultural barriers.
