Why dont you have a comdirect or DKB account where you can get money from the ATM abroad without fees? Its really absolutely fee-less, and uses the internal bank exchange rate for conversion. Also it happened to me many times in the US that I only found ATMs that charged fees, so for example I wanted to get 200USD but it charged my account with 203. Wrote a short email to comdirect about it, the next day +3usd was on my account.

I only use the comdirect account for ATMs: transfer some money from my normal german account, deplete it with the CC, start again.

If anybody wants to get a comdirect account an even give me some referral money than pls PM me an email address
