Same here, although only once. Bought gum in KL before flight to Singapore, not even thinking about it. Had a piece on plane. Left packet in bag upon arrival and kept it there through departure, carried on with no issues.

That said, Singapore customs website says it's illegal, except oral dental and medical gum:
