What airline is your friend arriving on? You're assuming flights will arrive somewhat on time. No comfortable areas to wait immediately outside Customs in Terminal 2. I don't remember if there are any seats from which you could see exiting passengers. You could meet in the food court in Terminal 1 (I've heard one has also now opened in Terminal 2). If you have Am Ex gold cards or better, you could wait in the Am Ex Centurion Club in Terminal 1. In general, Terminal 2 newer and more comfortable than Terminal 1. Not the most comfortable airport in which to spend several hours, but you will survive.
As noted, getting carts is no problem, but the walk between the two terminals is a long one. At least it's indoors. There are golf carts that take passengers between the two, though no carts permitted. I don't think you're supposed to take the carts on the moving sidewalks, but those don't go the entire distance and may be out of order, anyway.
The Centurion Club in Terminal 1 has been closed for a while.
