For important alarms where I can't afford to eg go back to sleep, I use hotel alarm call, and mobile 15minutes later.

If possible I use the phone menu in room (or TV ! ? ) to set the alarm myself.

Many hotels have a radio alarm bedside, but I trust those less than TV, mobile and hotel phone-alarm calls.

Yes, auto-set of mobiles timezones is a godsend when setting alarms.
