Easy for us to say that they could have waited. The GA would have to get permission from dispatch to delay a flight for 10 minutes. Even if he/she had asked, the permission would almost certainly have been denied. The storms that had just passed through DFW messed up operations and the ground crew was no doubt needed elsewhere. AA was not going to tie up the gate and the ground crew for an extra 10 minutes for something like this.
However, it shouldn't have come to that. The GA should have done a better job monitoring misconnects and processing upgrades earlier.

this???? We are talking upgrades on a 7 hour flight. They are presumably denying entitled value of nearly $1,000 to each EXP who sat in Y while a seat went out empty in F. In compensation discussions, that would be my starting point. Price of F with same restrictions available at time of ticketing over price of ticket purchased.
