Oh wow! I didn't know that merchants in the US were guilty of DCC too. However, wouldn't you have grounds to file a complaint with the card issuer if the receipt showed in USD but the amount was charged in GBP? You were clearly not offered a choice in that case.
I've tried, I managed to get somewhere once but had some massive form to fill out, so sort of gave up lol I just use my Amex who don't allow DCC. + Some Amex transaction in the US never seem to make there way to my UK account lol I've probably never been charged a couple hundred of dollars over a couple of years.
