I was supposed to be on the 07:50 to TLS. Fat chance, I knew it.
The knock on for me is now that it is impossible for me to get home for my son's third birthday this evening. I will arrive into TLS at 17:25 and there are no trains north after that time - so it's a 450 Euro taxi ride home, or a night in a hotel at TLS and the first train in the morning.
I will do the former and bill it to BA with a covering letter. Let's see what they say.
High Life - let me start by saying that I genuinely feel sorry for you. The prospect of missing a young son's birthday is not something to be easily dismissed. Even spending the intervening hours in CCR waiting for the next flight doesn't diminish the frustration.
However looking at it from a dispassionate viewpoint, and applying a few risk management basics - when you combine a high probability of occurrence (missed connection) with a high impact (missing your son's birthday) the need for mitigation measures is evident (a different routing/airline, departing ORD a day early, etc). Everything hinged on you making that T5 to T5 60 minute connection.
Please do let us know how BA react to your EUR450 taxi bill claim.
