He said he originally had a nonstop. I agree that would be unusual from Europe, but assuming he was correct, I advised accordingly.

Agents have assured me before that if my long nonstop segment was changed I could switch to different dates or a different intermediate airport with no fee. It's never happened, so I've never had to debate the issue with CS.
