Gotta have a redundant or backup wake-up apart from the early FD call. iPhone maybe, but I just use a cheap Brookstone analog that's no longer available. It uses only 1 AA battery but you cant see the dial at night.

Just got this thing made by Magellan which is overkill (it even has a thermometer) but it does offer the screen illumination. It takes AA batteries which is a plus.
