I have scanned my passport using NFC Taginfo. My phone had to be on top of my passport (with the book opened to the page containing the RFID chip). I also had to know some personal information (birth date?) to see the output.

I do not know what kind of RFID scanning hardware/software is available. Unless someone can scan your passport and read all the contents from some distance my opinion is there is a small security risk that you can manage.

Some people on this board do not worry about it, some use RFID blocking wallets or passport covers. Others physically disable the chips using blunt force trauma. You can do some searches on this forum and find a lot of discussion about all of this.
