I have heard recently that Edmonton airports is in serious discussions with Alaska to take over the LAX flights in Spring. This is good news indeed. I suspect AS with its reasonable overhead would be very pleased to take over a route with >75% loads and build from there. AS can use the LAX flight to link into its Mexico flights and offer a connection to QF flights ex LAX in addition to point to point traffic.

It appears that Edmonton Airports has had it with AC and no longer considers them to be a viable option to service YEG to anywhere but YYZ. People in Edmonton should encourage AS to come here - I just wrote them an email for what it's worth.
