I can't figure this out, hopefully someone has some knowledge about this. I'm a US citizen and a tourist.

I'd like to do a day trip by land from Dubai to Oman but can't figure out border related fees. I don't think I have to pay a visa fee for Oman since I'm coming from the UAE, but can't verify that. Also not sure about exit/entry fees. Basically, if it's semi-expensive I'll skip Oman for now until I visit it properly sometime in the future. I am aware of the extra costs for a car rental and insurance.

Also could use a suggested alternative option of a nice drive that will actually enter Oman but not require going through border formalities.
