I have not heard about this being an issue. I'm staying in an apartment for a week next month. I prefer not to encounter any big spiders either. I haven't seen any apartment rental reviews making note of this either. So I wouldn't worry too much. I did see some spiders out in the wild last year hiking in Taroko.
