I did a roadtrip to Yellowknife about 4 years ago. It was a great trip and the scenery is amazing but it's not somewhere you'd want to spend more than a few days at. I stayed at the Super 8--comparable to a Comfort Inn. It's a few km from downtown close to the airport. Back in 2009, the main access road was gravel, but it appeared they were getting ready to pave it (or it might have just been construction).

I've always wanted to visit Iqaluit as Nunavut is the only Canadian province/territory I haven't visited. LYR is on my list too.
