Right you are. I misspoke. Day's Inn was close to $150 in November when I looked. But still. Responding Canadians' explanations...

Yeah. Small government town with limited lodging. Most places fill up quickly and they aren't cheap. The Explorer Hotel is pretty nice and has a great restaurant. Avoid the Yellowknife Inn. From what I recall it's run down (though admittedly it's been over 4 years since I stayed there). I can't comment on Days Inn or Super 8.
Anyway, to the OP, lodging in the North is an expensive venture, often much pricier than in the South. At least in YZF there are some chains, everywhere else it's small independents or B&Bs.
It's the north. Everything's expensive. In Resolute, a can of coke will often cost you $3 to $5. You have to remember the logistics of getting everything up there; it's a long way from anywhere else. This becomes especially true up in the remote hamlets, where the sea-lift only comes in once a year. The rest of the year *everything* has to be flown in.
Just want the OP here to go with eyes wide open. Except for the free air, the economics might be the opposite of what one (e.g., yours truly) might have thought. Still on my bucket list, though.
