The flight is now booked and locked in (I had to present an itinerary to some folks in Japan for them to pay for). I looked at Glasgow as an option but the 12:55 departure was too late.

It's a fine line between some extra sleep and actually doing what he wanted and had planned to do on the Sunday (spend personal time at the Excel event). In this case he'd rather get up earlier. Every hour counts at the Excel show, I think it closes at 6pm.

According to
http://www.dundee.ac.uk/admissions/i...gh_airport.htm
Taxi fare from Dundee to EDI is £120
So didn't really consider this option.

I think we're fine now, and really appreciate all the input.

He can plan on taking the 7:25 train to Haymarket but have telephone numbers and cash on him so that he can call for a cab to meet him at south Gyle or Dalmeny should he wind up on the 8:45 train (he might not be able to finish working until very, very late on the Saturday)

Many thanks everybody, hadn't really appreciated before why a quick UK business trip can cost the same as a return flight to Tokyo but it's finally making sense!
