Rimowa's Topas telescopic handle is driving me nuts!

Hi guys,

I have a Topas cabin trolley with Rimowa's "new" telescopic handle. If you don't know what I'm referring to, here's a picture:

This handle is driving me nuts! I find it terrible to use. Maybe someone here can enlighten me on the "proper" way to use this handle.

The whole operation is cumbersome and sometimes there is a grinding noise if I just haphazardly depress the button and push the handle down. I doesn't seem like it can withstand the rigors of constant travel abuse.

Coming from Tumi, I'm used to a slick, smooth operating handle that pops up automatically when you depress the button. Now I have to struggle to pull the handle up and more irritatingly, trying to get it down. This handle is so difficult to retract. If you push it down from a not optimal angle, it doesn't budge. And 90% of the time, you have to hold onto the button and follow the handle all the way down to the base. Most luggages I'm used to is just press and drop.

What gives? I have to using this handle incorrectly or something because I can't imagine Rimowa can design something so simple in such a terrible way.
