No there isn't. The requirement for an invitation letter only exists if you list that you have friends/family that you are visiting in Canada.
I applied online last month without an invitation letter and as mentioned before, got approved for an 8-year multi visa within a few hours.
I stand corrected. I did check that box off.
On another note, I think the Canadian visa process could be a little more intuitive. And I could not find anyone to talk to. Called the DFW consulate and they said all visas have been outsourced, and gave me a phone #. When I called them it said, send an email.
