Did our stays overlap? I was just at the Palomar and I agree it is a nice hotel with the customary great Kimpton staff.

Location: As noted, it is in the middle of a lot of stuff! If you like basketball or baseball you could not really ask for a better location. Do note that there is construction on the entrance street of the hotel and check can be completed on the 2nd floor near the usable entrance (up an escalator and across a promenade-ish). Cheap taxis/ton cars are available and can take you for some real Mexican food. I found a food truck near the Jack in the Box on the corner of 16th and Van Buren. The food was great and horchata hit the spot.

Check In: Kimtpon added a secondary check in area near where guests can enter the hotel (2nd floor due to construction) in addition to the real check in area on the first floor. Staff was friendly and professional as always.

Room: No suite but a nice room. A big bathroom that had a bit of a weird shower set up. There was a huge soaking tub and a shower head resulting in somewhat limited showering space - narrow but long showering space with a teak chair at one end. A bit noisy but that probably had more to do with the crowd than the hotel. There was a WNBA playoff game next door and the crowd brought the party back to the hotel.

Pool: Nice. A couple of cold beverages while enjoying sun AZ sun was nice. Cabanas and a big sit-down bar area too. The pool is access controlled through room keys. Great staff out by the pool and at the bar.

Lobby/Decor: Unlike most of the other Kimptons that I have visited, this hotel is new construction. It's more like a "chain" hotel than a converted "something." Lots of conference rooms and banquet areas which also seem to be absent from most other Kimptons.. The 2nd floor lobby still had the usual funky Kimpton furniture though.

Amenity: Close. My reservation was made 3 months ago and I expected better than close. It was still good but only close to my request (PDX Kimptons spoiled me).

Check out: Same great service and on the 2nd floor to make it easier on the guests. I really liked that management went out of its way to accommodate guest with an easier check in/out.

This Kimpton has been added to my will return to list.
