TL;DR for the lazy
TL;DR: United's flight was late, so they proactively protected my mom onto OAL, who screwed things up. When I complained to United about OAL, an actual person gave me a thoughtful reply and offered compensation. This aggression will not stand.

Does that about sum it up?
