I have done that my last time in DTW too. Took a bit though as the GA wanted to put a pilot there.

Not removed from the list, but DL has been very clear more than once in saying that once a pax boards, they lose their "right" to the UG. Sure I have used that to my advantage (see above), though some GA's apply their own rules and UG people who have already boarded vs. those still waiting in the gate area.
