Assuming they still haven't cleared when we arrive at LHR I want to stop by the AC to make sure all is in order and find out where we are in the queue.

Will we be able to go through security, etc as though I was a normal transit connection, visit the AC, then go from there to immigration? I assume BA will have provided us our AA BPs when we check in at WAW.
I'm not sure what your question really is, but let me explain how I'd suggest you let things roll:
You'll land at Heathrow on your short-haul flight and follow yellow signs for arrivals and baggage reclaim. Once you leave the customs area you're free to do whatever. When you return to the airport, you can check in at Flagship Check-in (your profile indicates you are EXP), where you can answer the security questions. leave any bags you may have and also inquire about the upgrade waitlist. Then proceed through Fast Track security (which you're also qualified for as EXP), and avoid the AA lounges like the plague--use BA Galleries First or CX First Class lounge instead. Once you get to the gate, enter the holding area and pass the security person again, then find the gate agent desk and make yourself known to the agent(s) there (something like "Hi, I'm so-and-so and just wanted to be sure there wasn't anything I need to do on my upgrade request in case it clears... OK, well I'll just be over here, I'll come back if you page me *big smile*" or something like that). No need for the AC, no need to fret if BA don't issue you the AA BP in WAW, easy peasy.
