I don't think I've ever travelled with a bag over 50 lbs except, perhaps, a SCUBA diving trip to Belize when I had fins, snorkel and mask, and certainly not multiple bags.
...and that includes both business and leisure travel both on and off the continent.
I'm an expat at the moment, so when I do come home I take advantage of shopping and that includes buying stuff that no one would ever dare to on a 1x23kg baggage allowance.
I also realized why I was getting away with 32kg before when flying AC. PHL was my home airport for a while and check-in there is handled by UA staff, so they probably didn't care what goes in the AC baggage hold
