This reminds me of what I thought was a clever move on my part in my pre-FT days.

I was living in Charleston, SC and was requested to attend two job interviews with two different companies within 48 hours of each other - one in Hong Kong, one in London. Company A (HKG) were prepared to pay travel expenses, Company B (LHR) were not.

For the same cost as a CHS-ORD-HKG-ORD-CHS UA Economy return I was able to purchase a CHS-ORD-HKG-SFO-LHR-IAD-CHS UA Economy itinerary. So I was able to attend two interviews and bill the entire cost to the HKG company - they were neither out of pocket nor none the wiser.

As an aside, at the end of the ORD-HKG flight in UA Economy I could hardly walk - 16 hours in economy is not to be recommended (and I've never done it since). On the plus side I did get an upgrade on the LHR-IAD sector.
