LHR to JFK is an extremely short route to do a connection via Spain. By the time you have got to MAD and connected you would nearly have been more than half way to JFK.
I would consider taking WT+ over LHR-MAD-JFK in business class, certainly on the outbound day flight.
Thanks for the input- I was not considering LHR-MAD-JFK. I will fly ex-Europe and have to connect either in LHR or MAD. The flight time will not differ and neither will the price - or not significantly
I have done Europe-LHR-JFK many times and was just thinking of trying something new but still have a tendency to fly BA
