The US government policy (according to the person who reviews my travel vouchers) doesn't allow reimbursement for points even if you can show the number of points redeemed and you bought those points because a receipt for payment for the points is not adequate documentation even if accompanied by proof of redemption of those points. I has asked if I redeemed 30,000 points for an IHG hotel for which I had paid $0.006 per point, could I request reimbursement for $180. Here is what I was told:
"If the receipt clearly states $180 for lodging for specific date at [hotel] for [name of traveler] you can submit it on your voucher. But if it only shows 30,000 points purchased for $180 that is not valid documentation."
